Trip to Brisbane Forest Park
Hi there,
Thought I'd drop a few lines in about my trip to Brisbane Forest Park. I went on Sunday 9th January.
I caught a bus to the city then to the park. The park is part of a large belt of natural creek systems originating near Lake Wivenhoe. I plan to travel to that region when I collect my car from Adelaide. Heading north to this part of Queensland I will be able to experience rainforest only about an hour's drive from Brisbane!
The area of the park I was in was near the Enoggera Reservoir. The reservoir was Brsibane's first, completed sometime in the 1860's.
The park has a small headquarters where they have a sample of the park's wildlife in captivity. It was quite interesting to see the range of animals that live in the forest park. I have included some photos of these.
I also took a stroll along the 5km walking trail on offer starting from the park HQ. Whilst walking I was scared shitless when I can across a very large monitor lizard. I guess its length was somewhere between 1.5m and 2.5m. I must say that I gave the poor beast as much as a fright as it gave me, judging by the rate at which it raced off into the foliage.
I have also included photos of the trail. You will be able to see parts of the Enoggera Reservoir as well and some of the flora in the park. One of the last photos actually has a different and smaller monitor lizard in it (you can see it if you look hard enough).
Stay tuned for my next entry.
Cheers for now,
Damo
